Local Urgent Care Clinic Partners with City of Oakland to Test Essential Workers for COVID-19

Expands Free COVID-19 Testing to All Residents

Oakland, California: CityHealth Urgent Care today announced a new partnership with the City of Oakland to provide immediate COVID-19 testing to all City of Oakland essential employees.

Starting this week, CityHealth Urgent Care will deploy a mobile testing unit and a team of urgent care clinicians to City of Oakland municipal offices and buildings. Mobile testing units are already being dispatched to local businesses to ensure safety for essential workers and help our communities transition to opening as COVID-19 restrictions ease.

“We have new Quidell Analyzers in house now,” says Sean Parkin, PA-C and CEO of City Health Urgent Care. “These machines can produce a result with 97% specificity within 15 minutes.”

Through partnerships with government agencies, CityHealth will be able to expand free COVID-19 testing to anyone who lives or works in the East Bay area, regardless of insurance coverage.

For those without insurance, City Health has partnered with the US Department of Health and Human Services to cover the cost of COVID-19 testing.

“It’s pretty tough to get in to see a primary care provider, especially right now, so people come to us” adds Sean Parkin. “While our speciality is in urgent care (think lacerations, broken bones), we provide primary care as well” as a stop-gap measure until primary care offices reopen or become more accessible.

The benefits of this new initiative include:

  • On site testing for City of Oakland essential employees, effective immediately.
  • A mobile testing unit available for local businesses that can provide accurate results in 15 minutes.
  • A mail-in COVID test that can be performed at home, for those in quarantine or otherwise unable to leave.
  • A robust virtual care platform for follow up and communication with healthcare providers.
